Saint Stephen AME Zion Church
This place of worship was named for Saint Stephen who is recognized as the first Christian martyr. He was stoned to death for his views on poverty and the role of the early church. The structure is built from locally quarried lime stone and coral rock. The exposed open beam and plank roof structure is still evident when viewed from the interior of the building. The church closed in 1940 and has gone through a series of other uses since then.

Old City Hall
The first City Hall was a wooden building built in 1871. I was consumed in the Great Fire of 1886. This stately brick structure was completed in 1892 in an era when all bricks and building materials had to be transported from the mainland in sailing ships. Over the years, it has been used by Monroe County for juvenile court. By 1974, the State of Florida acquired the building and it was restored for use as the City of Key West Court House.
